I was born in Flint right over at Hurley and spent most of my childhood living in Burton. Since about 5th grade I’ve been a pop culture/music junkie and by the time high school came around I was spending all of my allowance and lunch money on cds and movies. For my junior and senior years I wrote the entertainment section in the school newspaper, mostly reviewing new albums and films. After my graduation I was like most recent grads, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I thought briefly about film school but realized I just really like watching movies and have no desire to make them. It was then I decided to take the classic “year off” to figure things out.
Next it was off to Hendersonville, Tennessee where I spent about a year living with friends, partying, and playing guitar. Ultimately that situation would fall apart and I found myself living back at home with my parents.
It only took a few months of living back home to make a decision on my next move. I moved in with some friends in need of a roommate on campus at Central Michigan University. I planned on attending classes there but didn’t get accepted. So for the next four years I took advantage of all college life had to offer without actually attending. During which time me and my friends formed a band and made a few bucks playing gigs there and in Flint (where we all were from). My roommate / drummer was a broadcasting major and seeing how much fun he was having with it sparked my interest. It started to become clear that the band wasn’t going to make it big, but that was okay. I had finally decided what I wanted to do with my life, work in radio. I figured any job that scored me free cds and concert tix was definitely the job for me. The best part being I would get to talk about music all day (I was already doing that anyway).
The obvious move for me next was Specs Howard since I didn’t know anything about radio. During my tenure there I became a promotions intern at a group of Detroit based stations. After my graduation from Specs and my nine month stint as an intern I again moved back home to take an internship here at the Banana. I spent two years doing random production projects, reading weather, and doing whatever I could to help out. You can now catch me on weekends and I’m also the host of our countdown show "The Dirty 30" which airs Sundays @ 8p.
