I was born in Bay City, Michigan in 1974, but I know what you’re thinking, No I’m not polish, maybe that is why we moved out of Bay City to Imlay City when I was four. Yup, you got it… I grew up out in the country which was great when I was a kid but when I became a teenager, the slave labor began. I had to spend a good part of my weekends getting up early to help my dad cut the lawn in the old apple orchard my mom just had to have!
So it was about the age of 15 when I figured out my true calling…. ROCKSTAR!!!! I had the good fortune to have many talented friends that could play killer 80s & 90s metal. So what is the only thing to do… start a band! So at the age of 15 my friends and I started our first band! I was a great front man, or so I thought!!! I continued jamming for about 5 years with friends in different bands until one day I realized I just didn’t have it, a good voice that is… at least for singing.
After realizing in my early 20s that I really wasn’t that great of a singer, but still had the passion to rock, I pushed aside the Rockstar dreams for something that I really could be good at, broadcasting. I attended Specs Howard to learn the ropes of broadcasting and that is where it all began. I interned at Detroit’s Z Rock while attending Specs so I could get my foot in the door at a rock station. When I graduated I found out that I needed to “put in my time” before I could get my dream gig in rock radio. I worked for an oldies and country station and even had to co host “Latin Amercian Hour,” which was all in Spanish and I still don’t know anything beyond taco and burrito!!!
In 1996 I got my big break and was hired at wings 103, an alternative rock station in Lapeer. I finally was in rock radio and lovin’ it!!! I worked my way to program director and transformed Wings into Radio X, which was one of the coolest radio stations EVER!!!
In 2001 Regent Broadcasting bought out Radio X and changed the format, that is when I was hired in at the Banana as the Music Director. I was able to help transform the Banana into the active rock station that it is today! Working at the Banana has had its perks along the way. In 2004, I met the winner of our 101 CD giveaway and in 2005 she became my wife. I now have a rockin’ family with three great kids!
After 7 years, at the end of 2008 I was promoted to Program Director… This is where it all begins!
