When Tony LaBrie told me to write a bio on myself I was like okay, no biggie. Now that I sit down to do it, I don’t know where to start…probably the beginning. I was born in Flint MI and raised in Linden MI. I was more into the social side of school for sure. I was a cheerleader and a pom-pom girl. After the games I would swap my varsity jacket for leather and a pack of smokes.
Music was always a huge part of my life. We always had a juke box in the house. Dancing, singing and my Dad playing the bongos are vivid childhood memories. At one point my Dad was going to teach me to play drums. However my sister’s friend thought my practice pad was a stool, sat on it and that was the end of my drumming career. Since I could not make music I knew I had to do something to incorporate it into my life.
My prior jobs were frying people at a tanning salon and working at Lake Fenton Marina. I actually sold a pontoon boat to Bob Seger, which was pretty rad. As much fun as the marina was, I always had a radio career in the back of my mind.
So how do I get into radio? Specs Howard! I continued to work during the day and attend Specs at night. CARS 108 happened to be doing a remote at the marina so I struck up a conversation with one of the crew and landed an internship. I was only interning one day a week so you can imagine my surprise when J. Patrick offered me a job as Promotions Director for CARS 108 at Regent Broadcasting. J. knew my real dream was to be on air and promised we could incorporate that. J. came through and I was soon doing overnights on CARS. Along the way Regent Broadcasting purchased Radio X, switched formats and POOF…US 103-1 was born. I left CARS and ventured over to US 103-1. So things were going great at US and they were soon to get better. In February of 09’ I was offered a position on Banana 101.5 from Tony LaBrie. I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun I am having! After ten years in radio I am doing what I set out to do in the beginning. I love being a part of such a cool team and I am I am having the time of my life!
